Support Worker – Southampton Day Services
Southampton City Council | Directly Delivered Services (DDS)
Based in Southampton | x2 Full-time and x1 Part‑time
Role Purpose
As a Support Worker within Southampton Day Services, you will provide high‑quality, person‑centred support to adults aged 18+ with learning disabilities, autism, neurodiversity, and complex needs.
You will work in line with Care Act principles, Southampton City Council policies, and safeguarding responsibilities to support people to achieve positive outcomes, develop independence, and take part meaningfully in their communities. You will promote choice, dignity, equality, and inclusion always.

Southampton Day Services deliver structured, outcome‑focused daytime support across a range of community and building‑based settings. We support people to build skills, confidence, relationships, and independence through meaningful activity, learning opportunities, and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities
As a Support Worker, you will:
o Provide person‑centred, strengths‑based support in line with individual support plans and agreed outcomes
o Support people to take part in meaningful daytime activities, learning opportunities, and social engagement
o Promote and encourage independence, choice, and control, supporting people to develop life skills and confidence
o Assist with personal care and health‑related tasks where required, following care plans, risk assessments, and training
o Support emotional wellbeing and behaviour using a positive, strengths‑based approach
o Maintain clear, accurate records and contribute to reviews, risk management, and outcome monitoring
o Work collaboratively with colleagues, families, carers, and professionals to deliver coordinated support
o Uphold safeguarding responsibilities, health and safety requirements, and equality duties at all times
This role requires flexibility, professionalism, and a commitment to delivering safe, respectful, and outcome‑focused support.
Working Patterns
Day Services operate primarily during weekday daytime hours. Support Workers are expected to work flexibly across the working week in line with service needs.

Essential Criteria
o Experience or lived experience of supporting adults with learning disabilities, autism, or complex needs
o Commitment to person‑centred practice, safeguarding, and equality
o Ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a team
o Willingness to work flexibly to meet service needs
Qualifications
o Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate, or willingness to work towards this qualification
