Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist to join East Hertfordshire's Children and Young People's Mental Health Service (CYPMHS) as a Principal Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist (8b post). The team operates across two main sites, Welwyn Garden City and Hoddesdon, and you will work across both locations.
Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (HPFT) CYMPS is a leading, innovative service, recognized for its role in New Care Models, CYP-IAPT, i-Thrive, and Mental Health Support Teams in schools across Hertfordshire.
You will possess ACP registration and provide highly specialist child and adolescent psychotherapy, working within CAPA, i-THRIVE, and CYP-IAPT principles. You will operate autonomously, conducting assessments and interventions with children, adolescents, and their families, drawing on a range of models and techniques, with a high level of clinical expertise and adherence to ethical guidelines.
The role offers opportunities to supervise training psychotherapists and to contribute to the professional development of the team.
The Trust supports CPD for senior child psychotherapists through funded training at Tavistock and IPCAPA.
Main duties
We seek an innovative Principal Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist to lead and expand psychotherapy services across the Trust. Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy is highly valued, and you will be part of the leadership for the East Quadrant, actively involved in clinical practice development and supervision.
The 8b role includes leadership and governance responsibilities for psychotherapy services at your clinical base, supervision of trainees, and a clinical caseload of complex cases requiring specialist interventions.

Person Specification
Essential criteria include postgraduate clinical doctorate in psycho-analytic psychotherapy (ACP accredited), experience in self-harm assessment and intervention, knowledge of clinical interventions, supervision, service quality monitoring, legislation, and IT skills. Desirable criteria include experience in parent/child psychotherapy and leadership roles within CAMHS.
Skills
Effective communication, multidisciplinary teamwork, risk assessment, and ability to work with challenging behaviors are essential skills.
