Job summary
We are excited to invite applications for Consultant Colorectal Surgeons with an interest in Pelvic Floor Surgery. The post will be based on the Heartlands and Solihull Hospital sites.
The post holder will be expected to work with local managers and professional colleagues in the efficient running of the service, both elective and emergency and to take part in the emergency on call rota that includes an upper GI and Colorectal surgeon (1 colorectal, 1 upper GI surgeon).
You must observe agreed policies and procedures on clinical matters and should follow the standing orders and financial instructions of the Hospital. This is to support the development of evidence-based medicine and is not intended to constrain individual consultant freedom.

Main duties of the job
This is a newly identified post to aid service expansion and to ensure there is sufficient sub-speciality cover within the team. The post holders will support the general and colorectal service to ensure maximal session utilisation within the colorectal team. The post holders will work within the colorectal team based at Heartlands and Solihull Hospitals.
Attend Pelvic Floor and Colorectal MDT
To contribute to the Endoscopy service
To participate in regular clinical audit
To ensure that clinical services are efficiently administered
To maintain CPD
To participate actively in clinical governance
To develop audit / research interests within the resources available
The post holder will be required to undertake any other duties and responsibilities that fall within the broad framework of the post.
As this is a post in a developing Trust structure, the role will be reviewed from time to time and the post holder is expected to respond flexibly to develop this and/or other roles to enable the trust to meet differing priorities.
To participate in postgraduate and undergraduate medical teaching and to the training and development of all members of the multidisciplinary team.
To participate in the training and supervision of all Specialist, foundation, and core trainees under your responsibility.

Job responsibilities
There are up to two on call rotas. There is the emergency on call rota at the Birmingham Heartlands Hospital in a one in eight-week cycle There will be two consultants on call at any given time, providing Upper and Lower GI specialist cover. There is no elective work scheduled when on call and the rota runs from Monday to Sunday. The second rota is based at Solihull Hospital and this will entail covering the care of the elective inpatients on this site.
