The Board of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (the Global Fund) intends to appoint its next Executive Director (ED), to lead one of the world’s most significant and impactful partnerships in global health.
The Executive Director is the Chief Executive Officer of the Global Fund and is accountable to the Board for the overall leadership, strategic direction and performance of the organisation. The ED is responsible for translating the Board’s vision and strategy into results, driving the effective delivery of the Global Fund’s mission.
Created in 2002, the Global Fund is a worldwide partnership dedicated to ending the three epidemics and building stronger, more equitable health systems. Each year, the Global Fund invests up to US$5 billion to combat infectious diseases and strengthen health and community systems in more than 100 countries. The partnership brings together governments, civil society, communities affected by the diseases, health workers, technical and multilateral agencies, and the private sector to identify and scale what works - so that the world achieves faster, more sustainable progress.
Now in its twenty-fourth year, the Global Fund partnership has saved more than 70 million lives and contributed to steep declines in deaths and new infections. In 2024, programmes supported by the Global Fund provided antiretroviral therapy to 25.6 million people living with HIV, treated 7.35 million people for tuberculosis, and distributed 162 million insecticide-treated mosquito nets to prevent malaria. Nearly US$2.7 billion was invested in strengthening health and community systems - a cornerstone of the Global Fund’s approach to universal health coverage and pandemic preparedness.
The next Executive Director will be an exceptional leader, driving implementation of the Global Fund strategy, delivering results, and engaging effectively with external stakeholders and partners. A gifted leader of people and systems, the Executive Director will bring proven experience in leading large, complex organizations, mobilizing resources in an evolving donor landscape, driving and guiding change, and in nurturing partnerships. Alongside strategic, diplomatic and adaptive leadership expertise, they will bring broad international and cross-sectoral experience, financial acumen and external credibility. The next Executive Director will impart a compelling vision for the realization of the organization’s mission, navigate a fast-evolving global health ecosystem and funding landscape, and serve as a leader in the ongoing work to strengthen collaboration with other global health institutions. They will be firmly committed to the partnership model, and the principles of the Global Fund. Under the Board’s guidance and oversight, the Executive Director will lead the Global Fund to serve as a partner to countries and communities in accelerating the pathway to self-reliance, by strengthening efficiency, adopting cutting-edge tools and approaches, and building a simpler, more coherent and more country-responsive global health ecosystem.
The Executive Director will be based in Geneva, Switzerland, and will travel extensively. Fluency in English is required; additional languages are an advantage.
