With 1 in 7 people in the UK facing food insecurity and 4.6 million tonnes of food wasted each year, we supply frontline groups with the food they need to support their communities.
Role Description
Volunteer Assistant based at our Barnsley centre. You will support the daily flow of food redistribution by sorting and packing orders, assisting with loading and unloading, helping with deliveries as needed, and keeping accurate inventory records. You will also help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming warehouse environment so that good food reaches people who need it.
What you will do
• Sort, pick, and pack food to charity orders
• Load and unload vehicles safely with guidance from the team
• Accompany deliveries when required and represent FareShare Yorkshire with care
• Keep simple, accurate records to support stock control
• Maintain food safety, cleanliness, and basic housekeeping standards
• Work positively with staff, volunteers, and visitors
About you
• Team player who follows instructions and looks out for others
• Physically able to lift and move food crates safely
• Reliable, punctual, and willing to learn
• Flexible with tasks and happy to help where needed
