Overview

Labcorp is searching for a Clinical Veterinarian II to join their team in Huntingdon, UK.

Are you looking for a new way to use your veterinary skills? We are a team of six veterinarians and one veterinary nurse working in preclinical contract research, looking to replace a team member who recently emigrated. Five of six members had no prior experience in research; no experience in lab animal work is required. We are seeking someone confident in basic veterinary consultations and surgery (any species), who can be trained in lab-specific veterinary medicine. If you have lab animal experience, that is a plus but not essential.

The role offers a relocation package and sign-on bonus (subject to criteria); competitive salary; a shared, quiet on-call rota; 37.5 hours working week; generous pension contributions; optional private health insurance; Continued Professional Development allowance and paid professional memberships; plus other perks such as an on-site gym and cycle-to-work schemes. Training on lab animal techniques and legislation is provided in-house and via external accredited courses. Our research is conducted under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 2012 to ensure the efficacy and safety of new drugs, medical devices and other chemicals for human and animal use.

The Huntingdon location is the second largest preclinical site in the UK, with a variety of species cared for on site. There is an onsite gym, and the area offers convenient access to major cities and an approximate one-hour commute from London.

Responsibilities

* Treat sick and injured animals and manage routine health concerns (e.g., nails, infections, minor injuries).
* Advise scientific staff on animal health, physiology, and welfare considerations.
* Teach and mentor animal technicians in animal care and health practices.
* Complete certification duties, including imports, exports, and quarantine paperwork.
* Provide ethical support and guidance in line with the 3 Rs (replace, reduce, refine).
* Perform scientific procedures as appropriate (e.g., ophthalmology or surgery) with proper anesthesia, aseptic technique, and analgesia.

Education and Qualifications

* Veterinary degree and membership with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

Desirable Experience

* Significant demonstrable veterinary clinical experience.
* Knowledge of small and large animals used in research.
* Ability to work in a laboratory setting with laboratory animals.
