About the role
The Head of Programmes will lead the delivery, strategic development and evaluation of Benslow Music’s core programmes: courses, concerts, and the Instrument Loan Scheme.
Main responsibilities
* Strategically develop and maintain an annual programme of music education opportunities, including courses, concerts, loan scheme and projects.
* Collaborate with key stakeholders, building relationships with tutors, artists and partners.
* Oversee the volunteer Library team and manage musical equipment and instruments.
* Work closely with the Chief Executive to align programmes with Benslow Music’s strategy and business planning.
* Lead the team and freelance tutors, ensuring high standards and participant satisfaction.
* Manage performance of team members, supporting professional development.
* Prepare and manage programme budgets, ensuring value for money and monitoring financial performance.
* Support effective marketing, communications and fundraising activities.
Qualifications
* Significant experience in programme and project management, particularly in music or music education.
* Broad musical knowledge and networks in the music and education sector.
* Senior management experience contributing to strategic programme development.
* Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, with demonstrable experience.
* Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Benslow Music is a long‑standing institution dedicated to music education and community engagement, based in Hitchin. Founded in 1929, it offers a range of short music courses, concerts, and runs an Instrument Loan Scheme that lends high‑quality instruments to young musicians.
