Successful candidate will be based at Blackpool Teaching Hospital working within a dedicated Breast Care Unit and the Trust’s Surgical Unit, comprising in‑patient and day‑case theatre and elective wards. They will join a team of two Breast surgeons to provide a comprehensive breast service for the Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre population.
Approximately 3,400 referrals are received per annum with an average of 280 cancers diagnosed.
Key clinical commitments include responsible for undertaking elective Breast surgery at Blackpool Victoria Hospital and performing a range of oncoplastic and reconstructive breast procedures. A weekly Breast MDT meeting is attended by all core members of the MDT.
Associated Duties and Responsibilities
Except in emergencies or where otherwise agreed with your clinical manager, the post holder is responsible for:
* Fulfilling duties and responsibilities and undertaking the programmed activities set out in the Job Plan, reviewed annually.
* Collaborating with colleagues in primary and secondary care to implement protocols for the management of patients.
* Keeping up to date with developments in the specialty and evaluating new technologies for their clinical and cost effectiveness.
* Contributing to post‑graduate and continuing medical education; the Trust supports CME/CDP as laid down by the Royal College of Surgeons and provides time and financial support.
* Achieving agreed personal objectives set out in individual job plans; objectives are not contractually binding but each individual has a duty to make reasonable efforts to meet them each year.
Full secretarial support and a designated desk in the Surgical office block will be provided.
