Migrant Support Worker
Rugby
Contract 28 hours per week
£20 per hour PAYE
Our client is looking for an experienced Migrant Support Worker
Migrant Support Worker- 28 hours a week (6 months contract could extend)
The Migrant Support Worker will provide practical, emotional, and housing‑related support to migrant individuals and families who are facing barriers to settling safely and independently in the UK. The role focuses on helping people understand their rights and responsibilities, access essential services, overcome language and cultural barriers, and move towards stable, sustainable accommodation.
The postholder will work closely with Housing Officers, statutory partners, and community organisations to ensure migrant households receive coordinated, culturally competent support that promotes wellbeing, reduces risk, and strengthens community integration.

Key Responsibilities
1. Direct Support to Migrant Families
Provide holistic, person‑centred support to migrant households, including those in temporary accommodation.
Build trust and rapport with families who may have experienced trauma, displacement, or exploitation.
Support individuals to understand UK systems, including housing, welfare, education, and health services.
Help families navigate language barriers by arranging interpreters and using accessible communication methods.
2. Housing Support & Tenancy Preparation
Explain tenancy rights and responsibilities in a clear, culturally sensitive way.
Support families to develop the skills needed to maintain a safe and stable home.
Provide early intervention to reduce anti‑social behaviour, neighbour disputes, and safeguarding concerns.
Assist with housing applications, documentation, and move‑on planning.
3. Access to the Private Rented Sector (PRS)
Search for suitable PRS properties and liaise with landlords and letting agents.
Prepare families for PRS applications, affordability checks, and referencing.
Accompany families to property viewings and support tenancy sign‑up.
Help families settle into new accommodation and understand expectations from day one.
4. Multi‑Agency Partnership Working
Act as a link between migrant families and key partners including Social Care, Education, Health, voluntary organisations, and community groups.
Attend multi‑agency meetings and contribute to coordinated support plans.
Advocate for families to ensure their needs are understood and met.
5. Safeguarding & Risk Management
Identify and respond to safeguarding concerns in line with local procedures.
Support families experiencing domestic abuse, exploitation, or other vulnerabilities by connecting them with specialist services.
Maintain accurate case notes, risk assessments, and support plans.
6. Reducing Temporary Accommodation Use
Work alongside Housing Officers to reduce the length of stay in temporary accommodation.
Support families to overcome barriers that delay move‑on.
Help prevent repeat homelessness through proactive tenancy sustainment work.
Person Specification
Essential
Experience working with vulnerable families, migrants, refugees, or people with complex needs.
Understanding of housing rights, welfare systems, and tenancy sustainment.
Ability to work in a culturally competent, trauma‑informed manner.
Strong communication skills, including working with interpreters.
Ability to manage a varied caseload and work independently.
Knowledge of safeguarding procedures for adults and children.
Ability to build positive relationships with landlords, agencies, and community partners.
Desirable
Experience supporting access to the private rented sector.
Knowledge of immigration issues affecting housing and welfare access.
Ability to speak additional languages relevant to local migrant communities.
Experience working within local authority housing or homelessness services.
