Job Description Vertex is seeking a talented self-motivated individual to join our growing Analytical & Purification group that provides critical analytical and purification services to the chemistry department within the research function at Milton Park, Oxfordshire. The candidate will have responsibility for the daily operation and maintenance of analytical and preparative LC-MS and SFC-MS systems. In addition to delivering a timely and reliable service, the candidate will be expected to develop new methodologies and operating procedures. As experience in the role grows there may be opportunities to collaborate with other groups on specific research projects. The candidate will have a passion for analytical chemistry and its role in the drug discovery process, with excellent inter-personal and communication skills to ensure maximum benefit is derived from their analytical knowledge. Key responsibilities include but not limited to: • Manage and maintain open access LC-MS service (housekeeping, troubleshooting, communication) for the chemistry teams. • Timely purification of chiral separations via SFC instrumentation on mg to multi gram scale. Practical method development and advising chemists regarding separation of complex mixtures. • Analysis of samples from chemistry teams by LC-MS and SFC. • Researching and appraising value of new analytical technologies. • Communication of results, developments and training to chemistry teams. • Research collaboration between cross functional/site teams. • Liaising with instrument vendors and oversight of engineer visits. • Keep accurate records of research and project related activities. • Demonstrate a high degree of responsibility in maintaining scientific standards and safe laboratory practices. • Maintain a high level of productivity in the laboratory setting. • Performs other duties as assigned. Key requirements A BSc in Organic chemistry, Analytical chemistry or closely related field. • Strong analytical and organisational skills. • Practical laboratory experience. • Knowledge of LC-MS methodology. • Enthusiasm for practical troubleshooting and hands-on instrument maintenance. • Track record of independent working and self-management. • Good interpersonal skills and competence at written communication and presenting results to peer group. • The ability to work in a fast pace environment, manage priorities, and maintain timelines for multiple projects. Flex Designation: On-Site Designated Flex Eligibility Status: In this On-Site designated role, you will work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.
