Job Title: Principal Engineer – Electrical Engineering (Control & Instrumentation)
Location: Barrow-in-Furness, Filton, Frimley, or Portsmouth – (minimum 2 days on site per fortnight). We offer hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about options for this role.
Salary: Negotiable depending on skills and experience
What you’ll be doing:
1. Develop and manage requirements and acceptance criteria specific to a system or product, or across a system of systems, platform, or programme.
2. Understand contractual and performance requirements for various systems, supporting the definition of acceptance criteria and events through design, build, integration, installation, and commissioning activities.
3. Produce documentation to support design review processes, including diagrams, technical specifications, supporting calculations, design evidence, and justifications.
4. Review relevant supplier documentation, ensuring proper capture and recording.
5. Support the development of estimates for scope of work and resources to aid bids, proposals, and project planning.
Your Skills and Experience:
* Essential: Experience in developing C&I designs for large-scale systems, ensuring compliance with functional, defence, and industrial standards.
* Experience managing non-functional requirements such as EMC, shock, etc., meeting industrial compliance.
* Proficiency in authoring/reviewing design documents like I/O schedules, functional design specifications, interface control documents.
* Degree in Engineering, Physics, Maths, Science or equivalent experience.
Desirable:
* Understanding of control system architecture and communication protocols (e.g., RS-485, PROFIBUS).
* Experience with IEC 61508 – Functional Safety and supporting safety claims.
