The Role
We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Fitter to join our team on a long-term maintenance contract at a large recycling facility in London .
This is a varied role with a strong focus on mechanical maintenance, installation, and welding across conveyors and a wide range of machinery and plant equipment.
Key Details:
Hours: 4050 hours per week (overtime available)
Shifts: Night shifts to start, with flexibility to work other shifts as required
Location: London
Key Responsibilities:
Performing planned, reactive, and emergency maintenance on conveyors, screens, shredders, crushers, and other recycling plant equipment
Diagnosing mechanical faults and carrying out repairs on fixed and mobile plant machinery
Inspecting and replacing bearings, rollers, drums, valves, gates, and other components
Maintaining and repairing hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including rams and solenoids
Carrying out plant inspections and reporting defects
Undertaking general welding and fabrication tasks (MIG, Stick, and ideally TIG)
Reading and interpreting project plans and coordinating with site teams for efficient installations
Completing risk assessments, method statements, and adhering to health and safety protocols
Conserving resources and working to budget while ensuring client satisfaction
Responding to emergency breakdowns and carrying out essential repairs under pressure
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Proven experience as a Maintenance Fitter in a heavy plant, quarrying, recycling, or industrial environment (5+ years preferred)
Strong mechanical engineering knowledge, with hands-on experience in maintenance, assembly, and fault-finding
Welding and fabrication skills (MIG, Stick essential; TIG desirable)
Proficiency with pneumatic and hydraulic systems
Familiarity with asphalt and concrete plant maintenance would be beneficial
Ability to use a wide range of hand and power tools
Self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision
Good physical fitness and capability to work at height, climb ladders/stairs, and handle heavy loads
Flexibility to work shifts and occasional weekends as required
Excellent timekeeping, organisation, and problem-solving skills
A full UK driving licence
Desirable Qualifications/Experience:
Confined space working
Mobile plant operation (MEWP, Telehandler, Forklift)
First Aid certification
