At St Chris, we understand that childhood and adolescence is a critical time for emotional growth and mental wellbeing. We are seeking a committed and empathetic School Counsellor towork with us. This role supports students in both primary and secondary as they navigate the complex landscape of identity, relationships, and academic pressures. The school counsellor creates a safe, confidential space for students to process emotions and build coping strategies, reducing barriers to learning and promoting holistic development.
Key Accountabilities And Responsibilities Of The Role
* Provide confidential, evidence-based counselling for individual students and small groups
* Support students facing a range of emotional, behavioural, or mental health needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning
* Work closely with Inclusion Strategy Lead, SENCO, Wellbeing Lead
* Maintain accurate records and meet safeguarding obligations
* Liaise with external professionals (e.g., CAMHS, social care, NHS) to ensure joined-up support, where appropriate
Additional Duties
* Demonstrate a continual commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
* To uphold St Chris policies to protect and safeguard pupils in order to secure their health, safety and wellbeing
* Demonstrate a continual commitment to the promotion of equity, inclusion and diversity initiatives and the sharing of best practice in line with St Chris Equal Opportunities policy and procedures
* Ensure the highest degree of confidentiality and data protection of all material.
This job description is not contractual or exhaustive but reflects the type and range of tasks, responsibilities and outcomes associated with the role. The post holder will be expected to also complete any tasks as requested by their manager.
Qualifications, Training And Experience
* Recognised counselling qualification (e.g., diploma or degree in counselling,
* psychotherapy, or equivalent).
* Registration with a professional body (e.g., BACP, UKCP, HCPC).
* Experience working therapeutically with children and/or young people.
* Previous experience in a school or educational setting.
Skills And Abilities
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a
* multidisciplinary team.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students.
