Summary Fibre Splicer – UK
We are seeking a skilled Splicer Engineer to join our team and contribute to the installation and maintenance of our fiber optic networks. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with a strong understanding of fiber optic principles and hands-on experience in splicing and testing.Fibre Engineer will be responsible for Fibre splicing, supporting the team on pre-sales activities, attending customers technical meetings, implementing projects safely, on time, and meeting and exceeding our customer’s specifications for quality. Fibre Engineer will be working closely with Project Manager & Operational Quality Health & Safety teams.
The ideal candidate will have 3 + year experience in Blowing Fibre, fusion splicing fibre optic cable, splice audit verifications, voice/data/fibre installation and termination experience and OTDR and power meter testing.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
* Splice various types and sizes of fibre optic cable including single mode, multimode, stranded and ribbon.
* Flexibility in Fibre cable pulling Jobs/UTP – Leading team or if necessary, roll your sleeves up and help the team (knowledge of test rod & rope).
* Must Hold CSCS, ECS or EUSR (Telecommunication) card.
* Must have experience leading teams on sites or supervisory experience to run the site & reporting to project manager on daily basis.
* Have ability to do risk assessment & closely monitor site activities in regards with health and safety.
* Analyses and troubleshoots basic technical problems or issues using OTDR/ILM/power meter.
* Installation of closures, couplers, ODF’s & BT Cabinets.
* Reviews, interprets and works with various maps, drawings and blueprints and testing documents.
* Performs daily tests, checks and maintenance of splicing and testing equipment.
* Performs optical continuity and conformance testing
* Makes splicing rearrangements on existing facilities in buried, underground BT/Openreach ducts, aerial and building work locations.
* Must meet Company minimum driving standards, have a good driving record, and be able to operate company vehicle Must possess at least a High School diploma or GED equivalency
* Must possess a minimum of two (2) years of experience in telecommunications or related technical field and demonstrate the ability to supervise others.
* Working knowledge of using various fusion splicing and optical testing equipment including, Alcoa Fujikura, GN Net Test, EXFO, Fitel, Sumitomo.
* Must possess the knowledge to identify and understand the difference between Multi-mode and Single-mode fibres; CAT 3 and CAT 5; Riser; Fibre optic; PVC, riser rated and plenum cable; Plenum and PVC environments.
* Must know the universal communications colour codes.
* Ability to work with others and work independently
* Must have utility pole/manhole awareness - bucket truck training and confined space training moves to the front of the line.
* Hands-on experience in Optical Fiber Build splicing and testing for both UG and Aerial networks.
* Should have asbestos awareness certificate.
* Flexible to travel.
