Team Leader
We are seeking to recruit a permanent Team Leader to lead and manage the Beds Service within the Clinical Technology department. The successful applicant will have extensive experience within a medical engineering environment, alongside proven leadership and team management experience.
The post holder will be responsible for day‑to‑day leadership, coordination and delivery of the beds service across the Trust, ensuring safe, effective and compliant management of medical devices. This includes planning and prioritising workload, overseeing maintenance activities, managing staff performance and development, and supporting continuous service improvement. The role will also require regular engagement and effective communication with a range of clinical stakeholders, site teams and senior management to ensure alignment with operational priorities and patient care needs.
The successful candidate must be educated to a minimum of HNC level (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline, with demonstrable experience in managing staff, coordinating technical services, and maintaining high standards of quality and compliance. A valid UK manual driving licence is essential.
The Department of Clinical Technology provides a comprehensive medical equipment management and maintenance service to the University Hospitals of North Midlands (UHNM) and external healthcare providers. Based across both Royal Stoke University Hospital and County Hospital sites, the department consists of multidisciplinary teams supporting a wide range of specialist clinical services. The beds service is a key operational area within the department, supporting patient flow and frontline clinical care across the organisation.
Main duties of the job
This is a new Team Leader role responsible for establishing and leading the Beds Team within Clinical Technology. The post holder will provide professional and operational leadership to develop a robust, well‑governed beds maintenance service supporting patient safety, clinical effectiveness and regulatory compliance across the Trust.
The Team Leader will be accountable for establishing the team, defining roles and responsibilities, and embedding effective governance for the maintenance, testing, repair and lifecycle management of hospital beds and associated accessories. This includes ensuring compliance with legislation, standards, Trust policies, manufacturers' requirements and external regulatory expectations.
The role will work closely with clinical services, Estates, Infection Prevention and Control, Procurement and external suppliers to deliver a coordinated, responsive and safe service. Key priorities include standardising processes, improving asset visibility and assurance, managing risk, reducing downtime and supporting replacement and capital planning.
The post holder will lead on performance measures, quality and safety reporting, and continuous improvement. They will support staff development, training and competency assurance to ensure service resilience. As a senior member of Clinical Technology, the Team Leader will contribute to wider Trust objectives around patient safety, efficiency and service improvement.

Skills and Knowledge
* Extensive knowledge of complex medical devices

Experience
* Extensive practical experience in an applied electronics service environment
* Information Technology experience of proprietary systems pertaining to role as well as MS Office and an Asset Management system
