Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Medical Oncologist for GI and Gynaecology at Milton Keynes Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Trust and contribute to the delivery of outstanding care to our patients. The position offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity for an enthusiastic candidate to join a rapidly growing Oncology service within the cancer centre, which opened in March 2020, and an Oxford University Hospital Radiotherapy Unit opening in 2025.

The applicant will play an active role in the ongoing development of the department. Support and training will be provided, and the postholder will be part of a wider cancer team.

Clinical Work
1. Medical assessments daily for pre/post chemotherapy patients, ongoing for the duration of treatment.
2. Daily chemotherapy prescribing and supporting nurse-led services.
3. Provide support and review of Acute Oncology inpatients.
4. Provide medical cover for adverse reactions and identify clinical risks within the chemotherapy unit.
5. Support the Oncology Unit with complications and emergency assessment of walk-in patients.
6. Raise awareness of the role.
7. Disseminate knowledge to junior colleagues.
8. Integrate within all site-specific cancers.
9. Work in partnership with visiting Clinical Oncology Consultants.
10. Run Oncology clinics within MKHFT for specialist areas.
11. Review patient laboratory results and liaise with pharmacy staff accordingly.
Managerial
1. Review current service and prioritize ongoing development needs.
2. Establish contacts and provide outreach advice/support (GPs, etc.).
3. Support complex treatments ongoing in the chemotherapy suite.
4. Coordinate the repatriation of regimens.
5. Attend Network Site Specific groups as appropriate.
6. Attend MDT meetings as required and provide updates.
7. Support nursing and AHP teams.
8. Manage complications of Hickman/PICC lines.
9. Work with the Cancer Services team to support the national chemotherapy agenda, including Peer Review and NCAG.

This is an exciting time to join our team, as our modern Cancer Centre provides a chemotherapy suite, outpatient consulting rooms, treatment areas, a ward for oncology and haematology patients, and a Wellbeing Service. The service is supported by a forward-thinking management team, nurse practitioners, a Palliative Care Team, and the Macmillan Information and Support Centre. A new Radiotherapy Centre opened in 2025, offering excellent facilities for our Oncology patients.
