Project Manager - Defence Sector
Location: Haydock, Merseyside or Cockermouth, Cumbria
Working Pattern: Hybrid, 3 days a week from any site
Contract Type: Permanent / Full Time
Working Week: 4-day week, Monday to Thursday (9-hour days)

Overview
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee the delivery of engineering projects in the defence sector, with a focus on mission-critical systems. The successful candidate will lead engineering teams, manage complex projects, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage multidisciplinary engineering teams, providing technical guidance and support.
- Ensure engineering activities comply with relevant standards, regulations, and project specifications.
- Collaborate with stakeholders including procurement, suppliers, and internal teams to define project scope, deliverables, and timelines.
- Conduct programme reviews, assess engineering documentation, and provide technical expertise throughout project lifecycles.
- Manage budgets, schedules, and subcontractors to ensure successful delivery.
- Maintain and enforce engineering procedures, best practices, and standards.
- Lead project planning, risk management, and change control processes.
- Prepare and present technical reports and documentation to stakeholders.
- Foster effective communication and collaboration across project and engineering teams.
Required Skills and Experience
- Qualification in project management or a relevant engineering discipline.
- Proven experience managing and leading engineering teams in the defence or similar highly regulated sectors.
- Strong knowledge of systems, mechanical, and process engineering.
- Experience delivering complex engineering projects from inception to completion.
- Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and leadership abilities.
- Proficient in project management tools and software (Primavera P6 advantageous).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence technical and managerial decisions.
Desirable
- Experience with international project teams.
- Familiarity with health, safety, and regulatory standards in engineering projects
- Previous exposure to specialised defence or mission-critical engineering software/tools.
