Job Overview-Locum Consultant Paediatrician
We are inviting applications for a Locum Consultant Paediatrician to join our dynamic acute paediatric team. This post has been created in response to anticipated increased demand during the upcoming winter period and ideally the successful candidate should be able to start in the Autumn period.
The role will primarily focus on General Paediatrics, and while a specialty interest is not essential, any subspecialty that complements our existing service will be welcomed and supported.

Main duties of the job
Main Duties of the Job – Locum Consultant Paediatrician
We are seeking to appoint a Locum Consultant Paediatrician to support our acute paediatric services during the winter period. This is a full-time post (10 PAs) for a fixed term of five months, commencing in September/October.
The successful candidate will join a thriving and fully integrated Child Health Directorate, comprising 21.5 WTE Consultants, including 2 Paediatric Neurologists and 6 WTE Consultant Community Paediatricians. The post is primarily based at Royal Preston Hospital, with close collaboration across the wider paediatric team.
Key Responsibilities:
7. Inpatient ward cover, supporting the Consultant of the Week.
8. Assessment Unit and emergency admissions cover.
9. Outpatient clinics, primarily new patient assessments.
10. Evening resident shifts in the Paediatric Assessment Unit (approx. 6 shifts per 10-week cycle), working alongside junior and middle grade doctors.
11. No neonatal cover is required.
12. Opportunity to undertake managerial or leadership responsibilities, depending on interest and experience.

Essential criteria
16. Full GMC Registration and License to Practice
17. MBBS or equivalent
18. MRCPCH
19. Have at least 12- month training in paediatric cardiology at middle grade level.
Desirable criteria
20. A higher qualification, e.g. MD PhD Diploma Masters
21. Completion of SPIN module in Paediatric cardiology
22. Have research activities in Paediatric Cardiology
Experience and Skills
Essential criteria
23. More than five years of experience working at middle grade level in general paediatrics
24. Valid APLS and NLS
25. Experience in safeguarding medicals and report writing
26. Valid Level 3 Safeguarding Training
Desirable criteria
27. Experience in subspecialty of Diabetes and endocrine or to complement the departmental needs
28. Experience in teaching both undergraduates and postgraduates
