Site HSE Lead – Tanfield

KP Snacks is seeking a Site Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Lead to join our team on site. The role is based Monday – Friday and is part of the Site Leadership Team.


About the role

The successful candidate will create a safe, compliant and proactive working environment. You will be a key influencer, coaching and mentoring staff to build a strong safety culture. Your responsibilities include:

* Develop and implement site‑wide HSE procedures aligned with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
* Embed the Integrated Work System (IWS) HSE Pillar across the site.
* Co‑operate with operational and project teams to meet regulatory requirements.
* Champion coaching and mentoring to build confidence and competence in HSE practices.
* Monitor key HSE metrics, analyse trends and present performance data to the Safety Committee and executive reviews.
* Shape strategic plans, identify improvement opportunities and maintain legal compliance.
* Manage the site HSE budget, prioritise risk reduction opportunities and oversee the annual HSE capital spend.
* Oversee claims and work closely with insurers and inspectors during investigations.
* Lead internal audits and interface with regulatory bodies to support a safety‑first culture.

Qualifications

* Recognised HSE qualifications: NEBOSH Health and Safety Diploma (NVQ Level 6 equivalent) and IEMA Environmental Certificate are essential; IEMA Environmental Diploma is preferred.
* Internal auditing qualification and IOSH membership required.
* Experience in FMCG manufacturing and leadership, working in a fast‑paced environment and as part of a leadership team.
* Strong technical and analytical skills, confident with Microsoft Office tools, interpreting HSE data and trends, and applying insights to strategic plans.
* Excellent communication and influencing skills, engaging colleagues at all levels, building relationships, and coaching to embed a safety‑first mindset.
* A flexible, proactive and collaborative approach, comfortable working under pressure and willing to travel to other sites with occasional overnight stays.
