We are currently seeking a Professor in Physical Geography to take on a pivotal role in developing plans and delivering research and innovation objectives that contribute to University and School Innovation Strategies. The successful candidate will play a leading role in developing an innovative academic environment which brings tangible benefits and impacts for other groups and organisations outside the higher education sector.
To perform as Professor in Physical Geography, the candidate will foster further development of this important teaching and research area within the school by contributing to research-informed teaching, enhancing Salford's reputation in geography, and inspiring the next generation of geographic researchers.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide academic leadership, development, mentoring, and career management advice to colleagues and students in all areas of teaching and learning.
* Develop plans and deliver research and innovation objectives that contribute to University and School Innovation Strategies.
* Develop local, national, and international collaborative partnerships with organisations, communities, educational institutions, academics, and practitioners to develop research and innovation projects, enable implementation, and optimise impact.
* Play a leading role in developing an innovative academic environment which benefits other groups and organisations outside higher education.
School and Subject Group Overview
The School of Science, Engineering and Environment (SEE) is a centre of discovery and innovation, with a broad portfolio across computer sciences, engineering, built environment, and human and natural sciences. It is one of the largest schools within the University, home to over 6,000 students and more than 370 staff.
Our Research and Innovation Centres collaborate globally on challenges such as Net Zero, Climate Change, Resilience, Healthy Living, and Industry. We focus on translating pioneering research into real-world impact, and our research is recognized as world-leading.
The Geography and Environmental Management (GEM) team offers respected undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Our courses are accredited by professional bodies including the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA), the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), and the Royal Geographical Society (RGS). Undergraduate programmes focus on Environmental Management and Geography, while postgraduate options include Environmental Assessment and Management, Sustainability, Health and Global Environments, and Safety, Health and Environment.
