Overview

Responsibilities
* Carry out venepuncture, capillary blood sampling, observations and ECGs for patients in their own homes, care homes, travelling community, community hospitals and clinics.
* Order and restock stores for the community nursing team.
* Collect blood samples and ensure samples are correctly identified using ice forms or labelling guidelines.
* Take temperature, pulse and blood pressure readings, and electrocardiogram (ECG) readings in accordance with agreed procedures.
* Print off blood requests using the ICE system.
* Report any concerns with regard to patients or colleagues to the Senior Registered Nurse for that area.
* Work with all health care professionals, statutory/non‑statutory agencies to provide a seamless, integrated service.
* Establish good working relationships with all Trust staff.
* Undertake phlebotomy training and apply competency‑based treatment techniques following request from a qualified practitioner.
* Undertake technician training (no interpretation required) to obtain pulse, temperature, blood pressure and ECG readings.
* Maintain confidentiality and dignity at all times.
* Ensure records are completed for each visit and SystmOne inputting is completed daily.
* Contribute to health promotion initiatives and requisition supplies and equipment.
* Demonstrate an awareness of consent and gain consent as appropriate following organisational policies.
* Utilise universal precautions and adhere to infection control policies.
* Communicate with patients/carers by exchanging factual information, reassurance, tact and empathy.
* Plan and prioritise own visits to delegated patients and document in personal work diary.
* Attend in‑house and competency training as required and develop current job role.
* Be aware of limitations of own scope of practice and request assistance as needed.
* Actively contribute to team working and express ideas on improving services for users and the team.
* Work predominately independently on specified tasks with regular clinical support and supervision by a qualified practitioner.
* Undertake mandatory training and participate in the Personal Development Review process.
* Follow Trust policies and local procedures, ensuring behaviour framework is embedded in role.
* Complete staff survey and clinical audit as required.
* Take part in clinical supervision as per Trust Policy.
Qualifications
* Previous healthcare experience and competency in venepuncture are highly desirable.
* Capable of travelling within the South areas of Norfolk, including towns and villages around Thetford.
* Band 3 role requiring a minimum salary threshold for a certificate of sponsorship.
* Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check subject to the Trust’s policy.
