Mechanical & Electrical Technician – Wastewater Division
We are currently recruiting a Far Mechanical & Electrical Technician to join our team in the Wastewater Division at Rye Meads Sewage Works (SG12 8JY).
Responsibilities
* Inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair mechanical plant and associated electrical equipment in a safe, efficient, timely, and effective manner with minimum supervision.
* Ensure the health, safety and well‑being of myself, colleagues, contractors and visitors, complying with Health and Safety at Work regulations and Thames Water’s Health and Safety guidelines.
* Undertake both reactive and planned maintenance, respond to alarms, fault‑find to identify issues, fix or escalated, and perform daily planned maintenance of plant and equipment.
* Install new plant and equipment as required in line with current standards and regulations.
* Record work and asset information to improve business performance, identify future risks, recommend changes, and raise issues for resolution.
* Provide specialist technical advice where appropriate, including up‑to‑date technical knowledge, coaching, training and developing staff under supervision, including the apprenticeship programme.
* Deliver excellent customer experience and positively contribute to overall customer satisfaction through timely, professional, efficient, respectful and polite interactions with internal and external customers.
Location & Hours
Base Location: Rye Meads Sewage Works – SG12 8JY
38 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 7:30 am – 3:36 pm. Standby rota payments and overtime opportunities can increase earning potential by up to £8,000‑£10,000 per annum upon completion of essential company training.
All PPE, tools, plus the provision of a van when on duty.
Qualifications & Experience
* Time‑served apprentice with significant experience in mechanical/electrical systems or NVQ or C&G Level 3 in mechanical/electrical engineering.
* Problem solver, able to identify potential issues and implement solutions, or escalated if required.
* Excellent communicator, providing technical expertise to internal and external staff and contractors.
* Resilient, able to adapt to pressures of work and working in a constantly changing environment.
* Ability to work with minimum supervision, under own initiative to design and standards.
* Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues relevant to the industry.
* Team player who can work in many different teams, showing respect for others, providing helpful feedback and supporting development of others.
* Full UK driving licence.
