This is a part-time 7.5 hours vacancy. Job holders will provide faith/belief and pastoral care to prisoners and staff of their own faith/belief tradition and have an understanding/knowledge of other faith/beliefs as part of a multi-faith/belief chaplaincy team. They will also meet the pastoral needs of people of other faiths/beliefs and none.


Summary

The job holder will work with colleagues to ensure the delivery of PSI 05/2016 Faith and Pastoral Care for Prisoners and its successor policy framework, as well as broader chaplaincy work including faith and non-faith-based courses. They will contribute to the assurance process for the Governor and Chaplain General/Head of Faith Services.

They will engage with and build contacts within their faith/belief community to aid offender resettlement and will prioritize their own spiritual health and development.

This is a non-rotational, non-operational role with no line management responsibilities.


Responsibilities, Activities, and Duties

* Provide guidance, advice, pastoral care, and spiritual welfare to prisoners, staff, and families, liaising with Faith and Belief Advisers (FBA).
* Plan and lead worship, meditation, prayer, and faith-specific meetings, ensuring accessible chaplaincy care at all times.
* Facilitate and deliver worship, meditation, study, and religious programs, collaborating with other chaplains, volunteers, and external groups.
* Contribute to policy development and provide pastoral care during crises, including mentoring and supporting other chaplains and volunteers.
* Nurture chaplaincy volunteers and promote faith/belief events within the prison.
* Assist in training programs for staff and volunteers and represent the chaplaincy team in meetings.
* Support the ACCT process and participate in relevant boards and meetings.
* Take on additional roles as agreed, such as Family Liaison Officer or volunteer coordinator.
* Forge links with faith communities and external agencies to support prisoners, including on release.
* Develop ways to improve service delivery and manage relevant administrative tasks.
* Assist with community-based initiatives and post-release support, as appropriate.

The above duties are not exhaustive; reasonable adjustments and additional tasks may be required.


Technical and Eligibility Requirements

Must complete specific training and hold qualifications outlined in the job description.

Roman Catholic:

* Be an ordained priest, deacon, religious brother/sister, or qualified lay person, with endorsement from the diocesan bishop or religious superior.
* Have completed recognized theological formation, such as seminary training or CCRS qualification.
* Have formal agreement to minister within the prison's diocese and endorsement from the HMPPS Roman Catholic Faith and Belief Adviser.

All candidates must meet the faith/belief eligibility criteria, demonstrate confidence in spoken and written English, and meet security and nationality requirements.
