The Team Estates Management & Development is responsible for the safety, compliance, sustainability and long‑term development of the University’s estate. The team plays a central role in supporting the University’s strategic ambitions, including its commitment to environmental sustainability, carbon reduction and a safe, high‑performing learning environment.
Role
We are seeking a motivated, technically minded Technical Officer (Compliance) to join our Estates team. Reporting to the Head of Engineering, Compliance & Sustainability, this is a part‑time role of three days per week, with potential to expand to full time. Working days will be agreed. The role is varied and practical, with responsibility for ensuring statutory compliance across a broad range of technical areas, including:
* Radiology equipment (MRI) associated compliance requirements
* Electrical systems
* Gas and water systems
* Safe systems of work
You will maintain and develop statutory compliance records and documentation, lead targeted improvement projects, supervise specialist contractors and help strengthen the University’s compliance data capture and reporting processes. Your work will make a direct contribution to the safety, effectiveness and sustainability of the University’s estate, supporting both regulatory assurance and continuous improvement. There is clear scope for the role to develop over time, with the potential to extend to full time and increasingly focus on health technology and specialist technical compliance, depending on organisational need and individual capability.
Qualifications
* Be educated to degree level in a numerate discipline or comparable relevant experience
* Have strong IT and data-handling skills, including Excel capability
* Ideally have experience in facilities management, engineering or safety compliance (desirable, not essential)
* Demonstrate strong organisational skills, attention to detail and problem‑solving ability
* Communicate clearly and confidently with colleagues, contractors and stakeholders
* Take a proactive, independent approach, with a commitment to equality, inclusion and ongoing professional development
