Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Sub Agent with extensive highways experience to join the delivery team on a highways project based in Nottingham. The Sub Agent will play a key role in the management and coordination of site activities, supporting the Site Agent to ensure works are delivered safely, on programme, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
This position requires a proactive individual with strong technical and site management capability, capable of leading sections of work and driving performance on site.
Key Responsibilities
Support the Site Agent in the day-to-day management of highways construction activities
Plan, coordinate, and manage site operations, including labour, plant, materials, and subcontractors
Ensure works are delivered in line with drawings, specifications, and contractual requirements
Manage and review RAMS, ensuring full compliance with health & safety standards
Lead site briefings, toolbox talks, and safety inspections
Monitor progress against programme and assist with short-term planning and look-ahead schedules
Ensure quality control procedures are implemented and maintained across all works
Maintain accurate site records including site diaries, QA documentation, and as-built information
Liaise with engineers, subcontractors, the client, and supply chain to resolve technical and delivery issues
Promote a strong safety culture and “right first time” approach across site operations
Required Experience & Qualifications
Proven experience working as a Sub Agent on highways projects
Strong background in highways construction (earthworks, drainage, kerbing, surfacing, road furniture, utilities coordination, etc.)
Valid CSCS Card – essential
SMSTS – essential
Solid understanding of highways specifications, standards, and construction methodologies
Demonstrable experience managing subcontractors and supervising on-site works
Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills
Desirable
HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction-related discipline
Experience on National Highways or local authority schemes
Temporary Works Supervisor or Coordinator qualification
