Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Hitchin £50,000 – £60,000 Permanent On-site (5 days/week)

This growing engineering business near Hitchin designs and builds bespoke machinery for a wide range of sectors including automotive, aerospace, logistics, and general manufacturing. They offer the perfect blend of project variety and the freedom to take ownership – where experienced engineers are trusted to deliver quality solutions, their way.
What you’ll be doing:
* Lead the design of special purpose machinery, from blank sheet to build, using SolidWorks
* Produce 3D models, detailed manufacturing drawings, and BOMs
* Work closely with the shop floor team to see your designs come to life
* Take ownership of your projects – no micromanagement, just support when you need it
* Solve real-world problems with practical, precision-engineered solutions
What they’re looking for:
* 5 years’ experience in mechanical design of bespoke machinery, automation systems, or special purpose equipment
* Strong SolidWorks skills
* Someone confident working independently, taking projects from concept to completion
* Based within a reasonable daily commute of Hitchin (approx. 45 mins max)
* Enjoys working in a close-knit, collaborative, and workshop-facing environment
