Our client based in Derby is looking to recruit a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their award-winning company. The role will suit an individual seeking to develop their career within a fast-paced organisation at the forefront of alternative fuel engine design and development.

You will be part of their systems team supporting global diesel and alternative fuel ICE platforms, including hydrogen. Your responsibilities will include delivering new and conventional ICE systems from concept to launch, ensuring compliance with regulatory, quality, cost, and timing standards.
About your role
Within a dynamic engineering team, you will manage end-to-end activities related to engine systems, including research, development, delivery, and launch. You will collaborate with quality, manufacturing, and service teams to resolve complex technical issues, ensuring a robust, high-quality product.
Responsibilities:
Planning and Organisation
* Develop and manage project plans based on targets and resources.
* Coordinate with stakeholders across functions to ensure seamless project delivery.
* Support program reviews with technical and cost updates.
* Communicate effectively with senior management regarding project status.
* Assist other design workstreams within the global team.
Research and Development
* Stay updated on technical developments within your system area.
* Conduct benchmarking and create innovative concept designs.
* Plan and execute proofs-of-concept through testing and analysis.
* Maintain relationships with strategic suppliers and explore future opportunities.
Design and Release
* Support product development in a simultaneous engineering environment.
* Define system requirements based on performance and cost targets.
* Drive specifications and design decisions with stakeholders.
* Utilize analysis tools for data-driven design.
* Develop FMEAs and DVPs, supervise testing activities.
* Resolve engineering issues using structured methodologies.
* Engage with suppliers through APQP, ensuring timely delivery of prototypes and parts.
* Support quality and warranty targets, and continuous improvement efforts.
* Create and maintain design documentation and SOPs.
Requirements
Candidates should have over 5 years of relevant experience, demonstrating autonomy, leadership, and a strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles. A degree in mechanical engineering or related field is required. Experience with engine system development, supplier management, and project management is essential. Flexibility to travel and a collaborative mindset are also important.
About you
You should have a practical understanding of ICE principles, experience with GD&T and manufacturing processes, and knowledge of emissions standards. Familiarity with Model-Based-System-Engineering, 1D simulation (e.g., AMEsim), and CAD tools is advantageous.
