The Director of the Northern Academy, an early college program designed to support high school juniors and seniors taking high school dual credit ( HSDC ) courses on campus at Northern State University. The Director works with area high school counselors, administrators, and teachers to recruit and on board students to the Northern Academy. The Director provides support and programming to Northern Academy students with the goal of improving their HSDC experience and their transition to post-secondary education.
Required Proficiencies:
• Drive to foster and support student growth
• Ability to see the big picture, set goals, and develop and execute steps to achieve goals
• Willingness to engage with national organizations, learn best practices from other early college transition programs, and network with similar colleges in other regions of the country
• Working with diverse students, including students from families with low incomes, first generation college students, and students from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in higher education
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially writing and public speaking skills
• Ability to plan and manage a budget
• Problem solving
• Experience working with high school students and/or college students
• Collaborative approach to managing projects or programs
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
• Provide meaningful and thoughtful support to students in the Northern Academy early college program, including regular communications
• Grow and continuously improve the Northern Academy early college program for high school juniors and seniors.
• Outreach and connect with high school counselors, administrators, and students in Aberdeen and a 50-mile radius
• Collaborate with the Northern State University Student Success Center to build up and market workshops and events to support high school students in their transition to college
• Build and maintain relationships with area high school counselors and school administrators
• Consistently recruit participants from area middle schools and high schools
• Maintain thoughtful, intentional, and regular communications with area school counselors and administrators and with students in the Northern Academy
• Collaborate with staff in departments across the Northern State University campus to create and promote events
• Partner with the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and the Chief Enrollment Management Officer to constantly manage, grow, and assess the Northern Academy
• Manage program budget, assessment, and reporting
Education Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in any field required.
Prior Experience:
• At least 2 years of experience in K-12 education, higher education, or school counseling
• Managing projects or programs
• Collaborating among people with diverse interests and perspectives
