Locum Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

We are looking to appoint a part-time (6 PAs) Locum Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. This is a fixed term post for 6 months.
We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will, together with consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of a comprehensive, effective and modern Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Service, practising the full remit of the specialty whilst recognising special regional and national specialist arrangements, e.g., Cleft/Craniofacial Services.
The successful candidate will work flexibly and co-operatively with other members of the team to provide a high quality, comprehensive service within this teaching hospital environment. They will be required to cover for colleagues during planned and unexpected periods of absence and will have continuing responsibility for patients in their care and the proper functioning of the department.
The successful candidate would be expected to work with existing OMFS consultants to manage the OMFS general and trauma service. It is also anticipated that the successful candidate will work with regional colleagues to develop the trauma and orthognathic service across South Yorkshire.
The successful candidate will work according to the terms and conditions of the national consultant contract.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full registration with GDC, and full registration with the GMC with a licence to practice.
* Basic Medical & Dental Qualifications.
* On the Specialist Register in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview).
* MD or PhD or equivalent.
* Distinctions, prizes, awards, scholarships relevant to the post.
* Further qualifications in research methods, teaching and/or management.
Continuous Professional Development
* Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months.
* Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio.
* Member of specialist organisations.
Personal Attributes
* Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values.
* The applicant must demonstrate skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking the English language that enables effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues as set out in the GMC's good medical practice (2013).
Clinical Governance and Audit
* Experience in performing clinical audit.
* Completion and publication of a substantive audit project or service improvement project.
* Active involvement in a clinical governance programme.
Management and Administration
* Evidence of understanding of the systems and structures of NHS Management.
* Ability to organise and manage clinical priorities.
* Experience of working with management groups.
* Experience in managing rota's.
* Awareness of current issues in NHS.
Teaching and training
* Experience of teaching medical and dental students at all levels.
* Ability and willingness to teach and mentor postgraduate trainees.
* Experience of organising post‑graduate educational events.
* Qualification in teaching.
Research
* Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate.
* Publication in refereed journals.
* Publications in peer reviewed journals.
* Understanding of the issues surrounding clinical research.
* Ideas for future research whilst in post.
Clinical Experience
* Evidence of wide‑ranging clinical experience and competencies in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
* Maintains Personal Logbook containing outcome data and complication rates comparable with published UK guidelines.
* Completed ATLS training.
* Completion of related Clinical Fellowship(s).
