We are a busy unit, with 34 core beds and 2 assessment areas which takes referrals from the Emergency Department, Same Day Emergency Care and urgent care admissions. We treat a variety of medical conditions, along with acutely unwell service users. We are an established team consisting of excellent multi disciplinary working, various skills and knowledge, who prides ourselves on striving to achieve our shared vision of moving forward and raising standards.

Main duties of the job
Your role is to support the Unit Manager and Matron in ensuring the provision of excellent care with compassion for the patients and relatives within or by the team.
You will be responsible for ensuring the planning, delivery and evaluation of care to meet the personalised health and wellbeing care needs of patients, in line with the Trust’s Values & Nursing & Midwifery Professional Framework.
You will provide strong leadership, education and direction to the team, monitoring and maintaining standards of care and professional practice to support day to day efficient running of the clinical area, service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

-Support the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse or Matron in ensuring the provision of excellent care with compassion for the patients, relatives and visitors who are cared for within or by the ward, department, service or team.
-Ensure a high standard of nursing is delivered by self and others based on
assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care to meet patients’ needs in accordance with agreed local and National standards and evidence based guidelines.
-Assist and support the Ward Manager in the safe, effective management of the area including management of personnel, facilities and the associated systems and processes.
-Act as a role model, presenting a positive image of self, team and the organisation.
-Be responsible for the delivery and co-ordination of care, through appropriate professional practice, delegation and supervision of duties carried out by junior staff.
-Set, monitor and maintain standards of care to improve the patient experience and outcome of care.
-Proactively manage risk and maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
-Communicate all relevant information to the multidisciplinary team internally and with external organisations as required, to ensure seamless care.
-Promote provision of patient education and health promotion.
-Promote equality in care and practice by recognising, respecting and meeting the needs and choices of individuals.
-Ensures environment of care is safe, well equipped and compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness.
-To participate in education and training of junior staff.
-Maintain and develop own professional competence and seek to extend the scope of personal knowledge and skills within scope of role and professional practice.
- Develop leadership skills in partaking in clinical audits, continuous improvement projects, datix handling and appraisals.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. Appropriate NMC Registration
2. Diploma or Degree in Nursing
3. NMC recognised Mentorship qualification
4. Evidence of continuing professional education or development in area of speciality
Desirable criteria
5. Post registration qualification in area of speciality area
6. ALS trained
7. ILS trained
8. Band 6 experience
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
9. Evidence of leadership experience and learning.
10. Awareness of recent advances within Nursing practice
11. Knowledge of Clinical Governance and safeguarding and the relevance to practice
12. Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures
13. Experience of implementing changes to benefit patients and improve nursing practice
14. Knowledge of Ethical issues
