The post holder is responsible for ensuring immediate care to the relevant client group and will work primarily within the HIV service at The Hathersage Centre. The post holder will assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care for HIV positive patients, supporting and guiding junior staff in the process.
Post holder will provide direct patient care and have detailed clinical knowledge of the specialist area. Post holder will assist the senior nurses in ensuring high standards of care are delivered & maintained, act as a positive role model within the department for staff, patients and carers, deputise for the senior nurse as required and enable nurses to acquire clinical and professional competencies by facilitating high‑quality education and staff development opportunities.
Post holders will be expected to participate fully in their personal development.
A band 5‑6 training role would be considered if applicants lack clinical skills or experience.
Responsibilities
* Assist in the daily HIV Clinical Nurse Specialist services for people living with HIV, offering clinical advice, self‑management support and referral to other appropriate community or voluntary sector services to promote health and wellbeing.
* Triage and action urgent and non‑urgent clinical and/or administrative tasks.
* Practical HIV and sexual health nursing according to agreed protocols and guidelines.
* Supply medication (as appropriate) within the boundaries of Patient Group Directions, undertaking the required training if necessary.
* Support pre‑ and post‑registration nurses and other staff groups as required.
* Work flexibly in accordance with the needs of the service, including early evening clinic cover.
* Assist with telephone enquiries, giving accurate HIV advice and information to clients and other professionals as necessary.
* Assist with the delivery of HIV clinical outreach services as and when required.
* Attend and participate in regular team, HIV and MDT meetings.
* Attend ward rounds with the HIV doctors, providing an MDT approach to inpatient care, discharge planning and follow‑up care.
* Participate in processes to improve capacity of HIV testing and results reporting.
