Brownlee Cale are recruiting for a Project Manager for a rail project in the Southwest.
About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Project Manager to oversee the delivery of rail infrastructure projects. The role will involve managing schemes that improve station accessibility, including step-free access initiatives, lifts, ramps, and associated civil and structural works. The successful candidate will ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
Key Responsibilities

Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of Access for All projects within the rail environment.
*
Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, budgets, and risk registers.
*
Ensure full compliance with Network Rail standards, health & safety legislation, and accessibility regulations.
*
Manage internal project teams and external contractors/consultants to achieve project objectives.
*
Act as the primary point of contact with clients, stakeholders, and rail industry partners, maintaining clear communication and strong relationships.
*
Oversee site activities, ensuring safe systems of work are implemented and adhered to.
*
Prepare and present project progress reports, cost forecasts, and performance updates to senior management.
*
Lead on risk management and mitigation strategies throughout the project lifecycle.
*
Ensure quality assurance processes are followed, including handover documentation and asset assurance.
*
Promote innovation and sustainability in project delivery.
Key Requirements
*
Proven experience as a Project Manager within the rail infrastructure sector.
*
Previous involvement in Access for All projects or similar accessibility-focused schemes is highly desirable.
*
Strong knowledge of Network Rail standards, GRIP/PACE processes, and CDM regulations.
*
Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage clients, passengers, local authorities, and contractors.
*
Track record of managing multi-disciplinary teams across civil, structural, electrical, and mechanical engineering works.
*
Strong commercial awareness, including budget management and contract administration.
*
Exceptional organisational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
*
Ability to work under pressure and deliver results in complex, safety-critical environments.
Qualifications
*
Degree in Civil Engineering, Project Management, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
*
Professional accreditation (APM, PRINCE2, or equivalent) preferred.
*
PTS (Personal Track Safety) and rail industry-specific qualifications desirable.
