Rail Operative Location: Cliffe Hill Salary: Competetive Join Our Team and Keep Rail Operations Moving Safely and Efficiently We are seeking a dedicated and safety-focused Rail Operative to join our team. This is a hands-on role where attention to detail, strong communication, and a proactive approach to health and safety are essential. You will play a key role in ensuring efficient rail operations while maintaining the highest standards across plant, equipment, and site activities. Purpose of the Role As a Rail Operative, you will be responsible for operating, supervising, and maintaining rail-related plant and equipment. You will ensure that all activities are carried out safely, efficiently, and in line with site procedures, regulatory requirements, and productivity targets. Key Responsibilities Safely operate and supervise rail mobile and static plant, including rail load-outs and weighbridges Ensure product quality and quantities meet site specifications Receive, store, and load trains and wagons according to site procedures Conduct visual inspections of wagons and rail freight entering and exiting site Carry out routine inspections and minor maintenance tasks Identify, rectify, or report faults and operational issues promptly Maintain accurate records in line with company and regulatory standards Perform cleaning duties and clear plant spillages during shifts Maintain high housekeeping standards across all work areas Health, Safety and Compliance Take full responsibility for personal safety and that of others within the rail environment Report all accidents, near misses, and hazards immediately Support the completion of risk assessments and method statements Promote safe, efficient, and effective use of site resources Ensure all activities align with company Health & Safety, Quality, and Environmental procedures Supervision and Communication Communicate effectively with internal teams, subcontractors, and suppliers Support and supervise personnel during rail operations Ensure adequate staffing and safe working practices are in place at all times Skills and Experience Experience operating mobile/static plant (desirable) Strong awareness of health and safety best practices Reliable, punctual, and able to work in a fast-paced environment Ability to identify and resolve issues proactively Willingness to undertake training and maintain competencies Qualifications GCSE Grade 4 (C) or above in Maths and English (or equivalent) EPIC and NVQ in mobile/static plant operation (desirable) Safety Track Passport (preferred) What We Offer Competitive salary and benefits package Ongoing training and development opportunities A supportive and safety-driven working environment Opportunities for career progression within the business Apply Today If you are a motivated individual with a strong commitment to safety and operational excellence, we want to hear from you.
