Senior Clinical Fellow (SpR level) in Knee Surgery
We are looking to appoint 2 Senior Knee Fellows for start dates August 2025, February 2026, and August 2026. The posts usually run for 12 months, with occasional 6‑month slots. The 1st post works predominantly with Mr James Murray, the 2nd post with Mr Andrew Porteous. The posts will be based at the Avon Orthopaedic Centre, North Bristol NHS Trust, and will involve work with the Bristol Knee Group.
Responsibilities
* Provide exposure to a wide range of knee surgery including partial and total knee replacement, revision arthroplasty and infection work, ligament and meniscal surgery, and patello‑femoral surgery.
* Assist in knee surgery ranging from soft‑tissue and arthroscopic procedures to arthroplasty, progressing from assisting to operating based on demonstrated skills.
* Elucidate an accurate and clear history in specialist knee surgery.
* Examine the knee systematically and accurately in both the soft‑tissue and arthroplasty setting.
* Complete a research project during the time in the department, progressing a current project and developing a new one.
* Publish one paper every 6 months.
Qualifications and Experience
* Successful candidates are usually post‑CCT and wish to focus predominantly on knee surgery as a consultant practice.
* Prior experience in knee arthroplasty and arthroscopy is essential.
* Must have, or be eligible for, GMC registration allowing work in posts not recognised for training; if in a training post the post is recognised for off‑programme training. Successful candidates will undergo training appraisal and assessment.
* Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices (or an equivalent system) is desirable.
