About the Department
Geriatric medicine is led by a Consultant Geriatrician with a multidisciplinary frailty team. Services include comprehensive geriatric assessment in the ED, acute frailty units, short stay frailty wards, frailty base wards, community inpatients, orthogeriatrics, surgical frailty liaison, and specialist clinics (falls, syncope, movement disorder, rapid access for elderly).
Responsibilities
* Provide inpatient care to frail elderly patients across frailty units and acute medicine.
* Deliver frailty assessment and management in the ED, acute frailty units, and short stay frailty wards.
* Attend specialist clinics and contribute to rapid access services.
* Participate in clinical audit, quality improvement and research initiatives.
* Promote safe handover and clinical governance in line with Trust policies.
* Teach and mentor doctors-in training, undergraduates and other trainees.
Qualifications – Essential
* Full GMC registration with licence to practice.
* Minimum 12 years’ medical work, including at least six years in a relevant specialty at Specialty Doctor and/or SAS grades (or equivalent).
Experience – Essential
* General training in Geriatric Medicine to specialist level (or equivalent).
* Experience teaching doctors-in training and undergraduates.
* Experience in clinical audit and quality improvement.
* Ability to make consultant‑level decisions and demonstrate leadership, organisational and communication skills.
