Overview
An opportunity has become available for a qualified Speech and Language Therapist, either newly qualified or with more experience, preferably with a passion for working with people with a learning disability.
Role
The role involves working as part of a multidisciplinary team with adults with a learning disability, with a contract of 0.5 posted with the Community Learning Disability Team in West Cheshire and 0.5 in the Eastway Assessment and Treatment Unit, Chester.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide evidence‑based speech and language therapy assessment, treatment and intervention to service users with learning disability and communication and/or eating and drinking difficulties.
* Apply core speech and language therapy skills to the learning disability field, supporting people with a range of communication difficulties and behaviours of concern.
* Identify strategies to be included in PBS plans and model communication strategies to reduce behaviours.
* Work alongside more experienced SLTs to consolidate and develop skills; full support will be given to new qualified staff completing their Newly Qualified Competencies.
* Engage in quality improvement projects and research, collaborating with CANDDID (Centre for Autism Neurodevelopmental disorders and Intellectual Disabilities).
* Participate in the multidisciplinary team, attending regular meetings to develop and share good practice.
Working Conditions
The post is a band 5 or band 6 position (dependent on experience); flexible working arrangements may be discussed. The post holder will commence on a fixed start date each month, with up to three weeks of inductive training (Prepare to Care).
