This role is central to improving housing conditions, protecting vulnerable residents, and ensuring private rented homes across the district are safe, healthy and compliant with legislation.
Key responsibilities include:
* Inspecting private rented properties usingHHSRS, identifying hazards and preparing schedules, notices and remedial actions
* Responding to service requests and investigating housing condition complaints
* Assessing properties forDisabled Facilities Grants (DFGs), preparing specifications and advising on planning/building control requirements
* Licensing and inspectingHMOs, ensuring landlords meet their legal and management obligations
* Taking enforcement action where required, including preparing reports, notices and revisiting properties to ensure compliance
* Supporting wider work onempty homes, fire risk assessments and corporate housing initiatives
* Liaising with landlords, agents, residents and partner agencies to resolve issues and improve standards
About you:
* Background inprivate sector housing,HMO licensing,housing enforcement orenvironmental health (housing)
* Strong understanding of housing legislation, property standards and enforcement processes
* Confident inspecting homes, identifying defects and managing a varied caseload independently
* Excellent communication skills, particularly when working with vulnerable or challenging clients
