The role
Passenger Assistant (SEND School Transport) SJSCO is seeking reliable, compassionate, and dedicated Passenger Assistants to support children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) travelling safely to and from school on behalf of Sandwell Council. Working alongside a Driver on contracted home-to-school transport services, you will play an important role in ensuring passengers are safe, comfortable, and appropriately supported throughout each journey. Key Responsibilities Assist children and young people to board and exit the vehicle safely. Ensure seatbelts, harnesses, and any specialist equipment are fitted and used correctly. Provide appropriate support to passengers with additional needs during transport. Maintain a calm, positive, and safe environment at all times. Follow safeguarding, child protection, health and safety, and transport procedures. Report incidents, concerns, accidents, or behavioural issues in accordance with company policies. Communicate professionally and effectively with drivers, parents/carers, schools, and other relevant parties. Essential Requirements Aged 18 years or over. Have lived continuously in the UK for a minimum of five years. Able to speak and understand English fluently. Successful completion of an Enhanced DBS check for both children and adults. Caring, patient, dependable, and professional approach. Ability to work confidently with vulnerable children and young people. Mandatory Training (Provided Free of Charge) Successful applicants will be required to complete the following training, all of which will be provided free of charge by SJSCO: TAS Passenger Assistant Training (TASPATS) Level 1 Safeguarding and Child Protection Child Exploitation Awareness Disability Awareness and Safe Evacuation Procedures These training requirements align with Sandwell Council Travel Assistance Service (TAS) standards for transport staff working on SEND contracts.
