The Role
We are currently recruiting a Shift Maintenance Supervisor Engineer to join our heavy manufacturing operation within the metals industry. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will supervise a small team of multi-skilled maintenance engineers, ensuring maximum equipment uptime, safe working practices, and effective shift delivery.
You will play a key role in maintaining and improving the reliability of critical production machinery, including furnaces/heat treatment, overhead cranes etc, and associated electrical and mechanical systems.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, coach, and supervise a team of 2-3+ maintenance engineers/technicians on shift
Allocate and prioritise reactive and planned maintenance tasks to minimise downtime
Carry out hands-on electrical and/or mechanical fault finding on heavy industrial plant
Maintain equipment such as motors, gearboxes, conveyors, sensors, PLC-controlled systems, and hydraulic/pneumatic machinery
Ensure detailed shift handovers and accurate maintenance reporting using CMMS systems
Supervise contractors and ensure work is completed safely and to a high standard
Ensure compliance with all Health, Safety, and Environmental procedures, including risk assessments and permits to work
Identify recurring faults and support continuous improvement and capital projectsAbout You
You will be a time-served maintenance engineer with strong fault-finding ability and ideally proven supervisory experience in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment.
Essential Requirements
NVQ Level 3, C&G, HNC, or HND in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
Completed engineering apprenticeship
3-7+ years' experience in heavy industry (steel, metal processing, glass manufacturing, aggregate manufacturing, ,or any other heavy engineering/ manufacturing, or similar)
Previous experience supervising a maintenance team or acting as a shift lead would be advantageous
Strong understanding of preventative and reactive maintenance strategiesTechnical Skills - Open to bias (Elec or Mech or multi-skilled)
