Job overview

West London NHS Trust is seeking a motivated and conscientious PMVA Senior Specialist Tutor/ Team Leader / PPE Advisor (full time) at Broadmoor Hospital (High Secure Services) to join and work alongside the existing team of instructors on a full-time basis in the PMVA department.

Applicants must meet the criterion as defined within the West London NHS Trusts’ Professional Code of Practice (PCP) for PMVA Senior Specialist Tutor/ Team Leader / PPE Advisor (full time).

Applicants must be up to date with current PMVA teaching practices, in addition to both local and national guidance in relation to violence reduction including the reduction of restrictive practices.

Applicants must have:

•Have current experience in High Secure Services and the needs of our patient and staff group.

•Be able to demonstrate that they have the required level of skills and knowledge to support / facilitate the daily delivery of all the current PMVA training programmes

·Work as part of the multidisciplinary team to assist with the development of proactive strategies and interventions to reduce violence and aggression and restrictive practices.

·Substantive contract and be working full time within a direct care role at Broadmoor Hospital

·Current Line Manager and Senior Clinical Manager approval to support your application.

·A good level of physical fitness

Be up to date with their mandatory training

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

have line management responsibility for the daily management of the department and allocation of resources, including training and allocation plans.

provide first line management and supervision/mentorship to junior instructors.

be able to undertake and coordinate assurance work with affiliate trainers and organisations.

have in-depth knowledge of theory in relation to causes of violence and factors/systems and practice that can prevent and minimise violence.

be able to lead on service evaluation, audits; and contribute to research and consultancy

have good knowledge and application of evidence-based modes of reducing conflict and containment (e.g. Safe Wards)

undertake training that reflects a trauma informed approach to care and treatment.

undertake regular direct clinical work in clinical areas (wards)

offer advice and support to Multi-Disciplinary Teams on the prevention and management of violence and aggression.

be a part of on call cover for the PPE advisor and oversee the PPE rota as delegated by line manager.

will provide cover for line manager as delegated.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. Training and professional competency as per West London PMVA PcPs and RRN Training Standards Certification.
2. Teaching and Assessing Qualification minimum level 3 (or equivalent): Senior Trainers will be expected to achieve a Level 4 or above.
3. Care certificates / qualifications (or equivalent).
4. BTEC certificate Level 4 and or Diploma Level 5 in Practice Leadership in Reducing Restrictive Practices.
5. RRN training standards accredited
6. Evidence of Senior continued/ongoing professional development (e.g. PG Dip Education, BSc Violence Reduction, or PG Dip in Mental Health or Professional Registration (e.g. RMN, OT). Chartered management degree apprenticeship.
7. First Aid at Work.

Desirable criteria

8. Other professional clinical qualifications (e.g. RMN)
9. Training The Trainers Cert
10. Trained in Quality Improvement
11. BTEC certificate Level 4 and or Diploma Level 5 in Practice Leadership in Reducing Restrictive Practices

Experience

Essential criteria

12. Significant experience working clinically within inpatient mental health setting
13. Significant experience of delivering PMVA physical interventions training.
14. Strong record of multi-professional collaboration at a senior level.
15. Strong evidence continued professional development.

Desirable criteria

16. Experience in patient forensic mental health
17. Experience in high Secure mental health

Knowledge

Essential criteria

18. Lead/oversee on PMVA training.
19. Knowledge of contemporary issues in PMVA.
20. In-depth Knowledge of best practice / National Guidance
21. In-depth knowledge of RRN standards
22. In-depth of evidence based models of reducing conflict or reducing violence
23. Knowledge of Trauma informed Care.

41. Management Ability: Internal departmental staff management may be necessary as part of the job, for example day to day job allocations, managing / supporting staff, planning departmental/functional training. Some people-management skills, experience and natural ability will be useful
