This is an exciting opportunity to develop our Medical Photography service on the East Coast, supporting various clinical specialties while managing and developing our existing Ophthalmic Imaging team. The role involves both clinical duties and management responsibilities, so experience in line management, prioritization, and time management is highly desirable.

Scarborough Hospital is undergoing significant growth, with a new Ophthalmology department planned for the Scarborough site. The postholder will be instrumental in shaping imaging services within this new facility.

The ideal candidate is an experienced, personable, and passionate Ophthalmic and Medical Photographer, with excellent communication skills and the ability to provide tailored patient care in challenging conditions. Strong technical skills and sound judgment are essential to capture the most accurate images for each condition.

We seek someone with a pleasant and helpful demeanor, who prioritizes patient dignity and confidentiality, and can be an approachable leader for the team.

Applicants should hold a relevant qualification or equivalent experience in clinical photography and be registered or registerable with the Academy for Healthcare Science. If not already obtained, a willingness to pursue a PgCert in Clinical Photography is required. Leadership and change management experience are advantageous.

Establishing and running a medical photography service, in accordance with IMI guidelines and regulations such as Data Protection Act 2018. This includes providing clinical and non-clinical photographs and videos using a DSLR for patient records, clinical trials, legal work, teaching and publication. The postholder will photograph a range of conditions of inpatients on the wards or in Theatre and outpatients in the studio from many specialties, such as Tissue viability, ENT and Dermatology.

Line managing and developing a current small, established team of Ophthalmic Imaging Technicians and an Ophthalmic Photographer. Ensuring service delivery is maintained and that management tasks are dealt with in a timely manner and with a good attention to detail e.g. rota, appraisals, absence management, payroll etc.

Undertaking specialist Ophthalmic Imaging procedures including OCT, fundus photography, Fluorescein Angiography, anterior segment photography, extra-ocular imaging and other advanced techniques.

Delivering training and mentorship to staff to support professional growth and maintain high standards of patient care.

The main base of this role is at Scarborough Hospital, with travel to Malton and Bridlington, and occasional travel to York site when required. The postholder will line manage the current team of five band 4 Ophthalmic Imaging Technicians and one band 5 Ophthalmic Photographer who cover the three East Coast sites.
