TITLE: Library Aide - Elementary
SUMMARY: Reporting to the Building Principal or Assistant Principal, the Library Aide is responsible for all clerical, administrative, and media-related tasks related to the Library, as well as classroom instruction and computer support.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality with respect to student records.
Performs clerical, secretarial, and administrative activities related to the operation of the School's Library; plans and advertises special Library events.
Assists students with finding resources for class assignments; teaches students how to effectively use the Library; answers questions about Library services.
Supervises student use of the Library and computer lab; manages full class of students without support; plans and implements Library lessons; connects Library lessons with classroom content.
Helps teachers locate materials in support of classroom instruction; supports computer instruction; manages environment for required testing.
Manages the Library collection using Library management software; catalogs new book arrivals, works with databases; performs circulation activities.
Evaluates books, media, and/or periodicals for retention; maintains inventory and equipment.
Monitors volunteers; monitors student activities and computer use for the purpose of maintaining a safe environment conducive to learning.
Participates in workshops, in-service training, and meetings, as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree preferred. Minimum of one year experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Experience required working with children of varying abilities; maintaining cooperative, productive, and flexible working relationships; understanding and carrying out oral and written directions; and planning and organizing work to meet deadlines.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Knowledge-based competencies include library practices; computer and internet operations; office equipment/software; and instructional, audiovisual, and media equipment. Skill-based competencies required include operating standard office equipment; using pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records; use of automated library technology; and record keeping.
Ability is required to schedule activities and/or meetings; gather and/or collate data; establish effective working relationships; and deal with frequent interruptions. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to remain stationary for extended periods; operating a computer and other office equipment, occasionally lift or move objects up to 30 lbs.; and position oneself to reach for or access books or equipment at various levels. Accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is performed in a generally hazard free environment and in a clean library atmosphere.
