Overview
Consultant Psychiatrist – Female Acute (Part Time) role at Cygnet. We are seeking an experienced part-time / any 3 days per week Consultant Psychiatrist to work at Cygnet Hospital Woking and provide senior medical cover on Kahlo Ward, our 11 bed female mental health acute service.
The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician and will oversee and maintain the care of all ward inpatients as required and will also have responsibility for auditing the medical services rendered at the ward and ensuring their good quality in accordance to GMC standards of good medical practice and other relevant professional guidelines. Kahlo Ward provides a safe and stabilising environment for women experiencing an acute episode of mental illness requiring an emergency admission. The ethos is to assess and treat service users in the least restrictive environment and plan for discharge in a robust and timely fashion, with a focus on stabilisation and preparation for independent life back in the community. In this role your expertise will drive life-changing treatment with support from a Specialty Doctor and a multidisciplinary team including qualified nurses, psychologist and occupational therapist. There is an opportunity to progress to Medical Director Level through management schemes.

Main Duties And Responsibilities
* Lead the provision of high quality care to service users admitted to Kahlo Ward
* Act as a positive role model toward patients, families, visitors and staff
* Take overall responsibility for patient treatment plans in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team
* Assess referrals and undertake mental state examinations of service users
* Investigate, diagnose and treat as appropriate
* Conduct ward rounds, patient reviews and clinical audits
* Lead risk assessment, risk management and clinical governance within the service
* Supervise reports for Mental Health Act tribunals and managers’ hearings and attend hearings
* Liaise with the Ministry of Justice for transfer of patients and approval of leave as required
* Maintain patient records accurately
* Maintain regular communications with Site Medical Director and Hospital Manager
* Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, staff and other concerned bodies; maintain appropriate reports
* Attend and contribute to academic meetings and adhere to CPD standards set by GMC, Department of Health and Royal College of Psychiatrists
* Contribute to 1:6 Telephone On-call rota

We are looking for someone who is
* Fully GMC registered and MBBS or equivalent
* Registered on the specialist register (CCT/CESR), Section 12 and AC Status
* Experienced and knowledgeable in General Adult Psychiatry and mental health diagnosis
* Knowledgeable of the Mental Health Act and Code of Practice, Mental Capacity Act 2005
* Excellent communicator able to interview, assess and treat patients and maintain clear medical notes
* Committed to continuing professional development
* Able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
* MRCPsych or equivalent
Requirements: The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS and reference check; offer of employment is subject to successful clearance.
