Chronos Energy has teamed up with a developer of large district energy schemes to aid them in their recruitment of a Buried Network Design Engineer.
The role is aimed at an individual looking to provide technical aspects of district energy development, focused around the heat network, including feasibility, design, delivery and operation support. The applicant will have the opportunity to support the Technical Director in developing end to end processes that promote efficient and accurate workflow aligned with company objectives and the developing regulatory position. T The ideal candidate will be customer focused, passionate about energy efficiency, renewable energy and decarbonisation.
Role Profile
Ability to provide comprehensive design services for heat network development throughout the commercialisation phase and offer pre-GHNF development assistance by undertaking route identification, network optimisation and proposal of the Preferred Route.
• Feasibility Assessment – Ability to undertake engineering assessment of networks routes and coordinate with colleagues to identify best value. This includes the ability to account for deliverability, phasing and future growth
• Design Management on new networks – Experience of leading district energy project design including identifying and defining scope, assigning tasks and managing deliverables. Focus on delivering fully coordinated design from Preferred Route to construction via our supply chain
• Design on existing networks – Ability to undertake specific design activities on the heat network for low capital value works
• Process Development – Work alongside the Technical Director in the development, maintenance, and improvement of the end to end processes for heat networks
• Performance Support – Work with Delivery and Operations in the performance of the technical systems and ensure performance is delivered. Additionally, address and mitigate any risks highlighted during the process to ensure smooth and efficient operation of the heat network
• Regulatory Reporting – Support the Technical Director in developing the reporting process in demonstrating compliance with the future Ofgem regulations
Experience required
• 7-10 years of relevant experience in the UK District Energy sector. Degree qualification and Chartership is beneficial
• Experience of the workflow design process from project inception through to delivery on buried heat networks
• Ability to undertake early stage engineering assessment of route options to identity the Preferred Route for the proposed network
• Experience of industry recognised software or developing their own tool sets and possessing knowledge of network and pipe sizing is a desirable skill asset
• Experience of developing technical projects to Heat Networks Code of Practice (CP1:20) Stage 1-3. Stage 4 onwards is beneficial.
• Detailed knowledge of district heating design (3G, 4G and 5G). Experience of Steam, HTHW and MTHW system design would be beneficial
• Experience of surveys of network areas in addition to existing plantrooms and buildings to identify technical scopes of works for installation and modification
• English language proficient, holding excellent communication skills to present information in speech, drawings and reports
