Interim Grants Finance Officer
A leading international environmental and conservation-focused organisation is seeking an Interim Grants Finance Officer to support its London-based team for a 3-month contract. With a pioneering funding model backed by a highly credible philanthropic founder, the organisation supports environmental partners across the globe - from small grassroots groups to established international NGOs - working to tackle some of the world's most pressing biodiversity challenges.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a strong understanding of risk and governance in a grant-giving context to hit the ground running and play a key role in strengthening processes and ultimately helping to shape how this crucial function evolves.
Responsibilities
* Carrying out financial due diligence and organisational health assessments of grantee partners across a wide range of contexts, from those providing informal records to those with full audited accounts
* Reviewing financial documents, risk assessments, governance frameworks, and policies to ensure appropriate oversight is in place
* Liaising directly with partners to clarify risk-related issues and make practical recommendations
* Supporting the Finance & Risk Manager by picking up day-to-day assessments, giving her space to review and refine broader processes and strategy
* Feeding into discussions around how to streamline and resource the function longer-term
Qualifications
* Experienced in grant-making, particularly in international development or the charity sector, either as a funder or grantee
* Comfortable reviewing a wide spectrum of financial documentation and assessing organisational risk
* Skilled at communicating diplomatically and clearly across a range of cultures and contexts
* Happy to work autonomously and jump straight into the work
* Either a qualified accountant or qualified by experience (QBE) – the right background and approach are more important than letters
This role is available on a part-time or full-time basis (0.8 – 1.0 FTE), offering a day rate of £250 – £300, depending on experience. Hybrid working is in place, with three days per week expected in the Central London office.
This is a fantastic short-term opportunity (with potential for extension) to join a values-driven, globally-minded organisation and contribute meaningfully to their mission while influencing how financial due diligence and risk are embedded for the future.
