What’s the role?
We are committed to ensuring that all children and young people have equal access to a wide range of meaningful education experiences, tailored to their individual needs.
In this role you will be a part of a team supporting the health and wellbeing of all children and young people to make sure we get it right for every child in North Lanarkshire. (GIRFEC)
During this 12-month modern apprenticeship, you will work in one of our primary, secondary or additional support needs school supporting children and young people to have an inclusive school experience and reach their full potential. In addition to this you will be required to attend college one/two days a week. During the school holidays you will be placed within an Early Years setting where you will gain experience of working with children between the ages of 0-5 years old.
You will undertake an SCQF Level 7 in Social Services: Children and Young People, develop working knowledge on how to support children and young people from diverse backgrounds with a wide range of needs and gain practical experience of how to support personal care needs.
You will be supported by our Early Careers Training Supervisor, a dedicated workplace supervisor and your NLC colleagues who will be working with you during your placement, as well as the support you will receive from your college assessors.

What do I need?
You don’t need any previous experience although you should have English and at least three other qualifications at Nat 5 level or above. Candidates who have successfully completed a relevant Foundation Apprenticeship will also be considered.
We do look for you to have a passion about working with children and young people, particularly those with additional support needs – helping them to learn and develop and making sure their care needs are met. We look for apprentices who can help us deliver our exciting ambition and plans for North Lanarkshire.
During the selection process we will look for you to demonstrate the key strengths we know you will need to be successful; ambition, determination, adaptability, personality, ownership, be pro-active and show willingness to learn.
In accordance with government guidelines, you will need to be at least 16-24 years of age (at the starting point of the apprenticeship) or if you are disabled or care experienced you will need to be aged between 16-29 (at the point of starting the apprenticeship)
The role requires Protection of Vulnerable Group (PVG) Membership in relation to working with children and is temporary until Aug .
