Discover more about our benefits. https://www.penrithcity.nsw.gov.au/council/careers/our-benefits Here’s what you’ll be up to… This unique and rewarding role will assist with the resolution of asbestos and environmental compliance issues impacting Council assets as part of the Divisional Assurance and Security Operations Team. The position is responsible for responding to and managing asbestos-related incidents, undertaking environmental management inspections of Council assets, and supporting Council in meeting its environmental management obligations at a recently redeveloped landfill site. In addition, the role will provide strategic advice on contamination matters impacting Council assets and deliver specialist technical expertise and support to the Divisional Assurance and Security Operations Coordinator. The successful applicant will also represent Council across various asbestos-related industry networks. This is a permanent full-time position, working 35 hours per week. As a senior role, the position requires the ability to work independently while also providing ongoing guidance, mentoring, and support to other team members. Who we are (And why you’ll love us) The position will form part of the Divisional Assurance and Security Operations Team, which provides specialist support to internal stakeholders across several key service areas. These include the management of asbestos and contamination risks affecting Council assets, environmental responsibilities at Gipps Street Reserve, and security operations. We are seeking applicants who: Has a positive, proactive mindset Exhibits strong problem‑solving and communication skills Has sound judgement under pressure Can work independently but also provide ongoing guidance and mentoring to other team members Has tertiary qualifications in Project Management, Environmental Health, Compliance, or a related field. Has extensive experience in asbestos management and/or environmental management and meets the definition of competent person as defined by SafeWork NSW Is able to sample and handle non-friable asbestos material The must-know bits You will be required to undertake employment checks, which may include a Criminal History Check, Qualification Check, Working with Children Check, Medical Declaration and/or a Functional Test, as relevant to the position for which you have applied. Where a Criminal History Check is required and has returned a result that indicates disclosable court outcomes, you will be required to provide a copy of the report to Penrith City Council, for review, to progress through the recruitment process.
