Job Description
To deliver high-quality teaching and learning for pupils in Upper Key Stage 2 (Years 5 and 6), ensuring all children make strong progress academically, socially, and emotionally. The role includes preparing pupils effectively for Key Stage 2 SATs and transition to secondary school.
The role is to start in September 2026 and will be for the full academic year on a full time basis.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
* Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons in line with the National Curriculum
* Teach core and foundation subjects across Year 5 and/or Year 6
* Use a range of teaching strategies to meet diverse pupil needs, including SEND and high attainers
* Prepare Year 6 pupils for SATs (reading, SPaG, maths) where applicable
* Maintain high expectations of behaviour and achievement
Assessment and Progress
* Assess, record, and report on pupil progress in line with school policy
* Use data effectively to inform planning and intervention
* Provide timely feedback to pupils to support progress
* Participate in pupil progress meetings
Classroom Management
* Create a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment
* Establish clear routines and behaviour expectations
* Promote pupil wellbeing and resilience
Curriculum Development
* Contribute to the planning and development of the KS2 curriculum
* Work collaboratively with colleagues across Year 5/6
* Support subject leadership areas (if applicable)
Pastoral and Safeguarding
* Take responsibility for the pastoral care of pupils in your class
* Safeguard and promote the welfare of all pupils
* Follow school safeguarding policies and procedures at all times
Communication
* Build positive relationships with parents/carers
* Provide regular updates on pupil progress
* Work effectively with colleagues, support staff, and external agencies
Professional Responsibilities
* Participate in staff meetings, training, and CPD
* Engage in performance management processes
* Contribute to wider school life (e.g. clubs, trips, events)
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications & Experience
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
* Experience teaching in Key Stage 2 (preferably Year 5/6)
* Strong knowledge of the National Curriculum
* Experience of assessment and tracking pupil progress
Desirable
* Experience teaching Year 6 and preparing pupils for SATs
* Subject leadership experience
* Knowledge of intervention strategies
