An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a successful, growing national retail business headquartered in Carlisle.
As an integral part of the Finance team you will play a key role in management accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and analysis, investment appraisal, performance review and ad‑hoc projects.
Responsibilities
* Management accounting
o Ensure that day to day accounting is carried out in a timely and efficient manner
o Prepare monthly management accounts incorporating a P&L, cash flow and balance sheet, with supporting analysis and reconciliations
o Carry out variance analysis and provide insightful commentary thereon
o Track KPIs to monitor business performance
o Assist with the preparation of board and management reports
o Develop dashboards and reports to facilitate commercial and strategic decision making
* Budgeting and forecasting
o Assist with the annual budget preparation and periodic reforecasting
o Monitor actual versus budget performance, understand and communicate variances
o Identify and highlight key trends and risks to support strategic planning
* Business partnering
o Work closely with operational teams to review performance, provide financial insights and improve financial understanding across the business
o Present financial data and analysis in an understandable and actionable manner
o Appraise proposals for new stores and lease renewals on existing stores
o Assess return on investment of marketing and website expenditure
* Cost control and process improvement
o Continuously review the management accounting procedures to identify and implement process automation and efficiencies in day to day accounting
o Review and ensure the timely and correct implementation of internal controls to reduce the risk of fraud and errors
* Month and year end processes
o Ensure timely and accurate completion of month end procedures including balance sheet reconciliations
o Support the external audit process, liaising with auditors and preparing comprehensive documentation
o Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulatory requirements
Qualifications
* Recently qualified (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
* Strong technical accounting skills, familiarity with UK GAAP and in particular FRS 102/IFRS 16 lease accounting requirements
* Advanced Excel skills
