Job Description
The Role
As an Associate Infrastructure Engineer, you’ll undertake an exciting 18-month learning journey, designed to equip you with the skills and experience needed to succeed at GCHQ. With our support, you will seamlessly integrate into our vibrant team, gaining knowledge to support the safety of IT infrastructure across GCHQ and our intelligence partners, directly impacting mission capabilities.
Complete a mix of classroom, virtual, and on-the-job learning, alongside a cohort sharing your interests and ambitions. You could work in areas including Automation, Cloud, Networks, Operating Systems, Applications, Data Transfer, Access Management, Collaboration, or Cyber Security, or contribute to a unique project. Our technology is bespoke, offering work you won’t find elsewhere.
Transform your passion into practical, technical skills. From deploying applications to developing cloud-native technologies, you’ll learn to identify innovative approaches that shape our work. Collaborate in small teams or larger groups to tackle specific challenges or broader issues. After training, join a team supporting all three agencies, ensuring our infrastructure remains safe, secure, and fit for purpose in an evolving tech landscape.
Person Specification
About You
A genuine interest in technology and a drive to learn new skills are essential. No prior IT experience is required, but you should have an aptitude and enthusiasm for technology. Whether you’re a school leaver, STEM graduate, career changer, or returning to work, you need a GCSE grade C/4 (or above) in Maths or equivalent.
We encourage experienced candidates too. If you have a background in IT or related fields, your experience will be valued. You should be comfortable with technical information and eager to apply your knowledge in an environment that values innovation.
Training and Development
Embark on a structured learning pathway with funded resources, including self-guided learning or courses. You may undertake placements in other teams to gain exposure to different technologies. You’ll receive a 3-day departmental induction, followed by a comprehensive business induction, and be paired with mentors. Opportunities to earn industry-recognized qualifications like ISC ² CISSO, AWS Solution Architect, or CISCO CCNA are available, along with evidence for professional registration with the IET or BCS.
